FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Georgia man faces felony charges following a partially successful escape from custody in Fayette County Thursday morning.
Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley reports that, in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 22, 2022, a defendant was transported to temporary holding following a sentencing of 1 to 5 years in Fayette County Circuit Court for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine.
It was at this time the defendant requested to contact his family to inform them of his situation.
Authorities waited with shackles nearby as the defendant conducted his business.
It is reported that the defendant then threw the phone, ran out of the processing area, jumped a partition, exited the holding area, and fled the courthouse on foot.
Following a brief foot chase, the defendant was apprehended in the rear parking lot area of the court house.
Clinton Whitehead, 44 of Georgia, now faces charges of Escape, and was transported to Southern Regional Jail to await further proceedings.
