BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission convened for the Regular Session on Tuesday in a meeting which saw money begin moving almost immediately upon proceedings getting underway.
The first motion pertained to a proposed in-house change from the Raleigh County Assessor which would see $653 shifted from insurance to Assessor Supplement Agriculture.
This was followed by a budget revision from the commission itself, which saw $115,000 moved from Capital Outlay and other improvements, taking $37,000 to contracted services, $36,000 to utilities and $42,000 to telephone for an increase of $115,000.
A pair of additionally proposed revisions by the commission and explained by Commission President Dave Tolliver, entailed a decrease of $1200 from Building Inspection Telephone $1200 to Building Inspection Maintenance and Repair Equipment for a net of $1200, along with $1500 from Litter Control Group Insurance moved to Litter Control Salaries and Wages.
Finally, a motion was passed for a series of moves which would pertain to hotel occupancy and would precipitate a $300,000 net increase.
“The next is for the hotel occupancy tax. We’re going to increase the previously amount from $1,100,000 to $1,400,000 for a net increase of $300,000. and that is for the hotel occupancy. That’s a tough thing,” said Tolliver.
“We have one other one too. This is an in house for a decrease of $92,500 from the County Commission, and we’re going to put $500 in geographic information system, $27,000 in rehabilitation of property, $15,000 home APT, $50,000 Central Garage, $150,000 in Parks and Rec and $150,000 into the Visitors Bureau. That’s $300,000. So that’s the other part of this budget revision as well.”
