BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Beckley Area Foundation has announced one of its most recent designated distributions which was awarded to the Raleigh County Public Library.
“The mission of the Raleigh County Public Library is to assemble, preserve, organize and provide access to educational, recreational and informational material in a variety of formats and technologies. The library consists of four branches, and has a great selection of events and programs to choose from for children, teens and adults.
‘The Raleigh County Public Library, with assistance from BAF and other donors, is able to put on an annual summer reading program for hundreds of children throughout the community. We are also able to provide new baby welcome bags with a book and more to babies born at Raleigh General Hospital. Thank you to all the contributors and we hope to see you at the library!,’ says Amy Stover, Director of Raleigh County Public Library.
Raleigh County Public Library received a total distribution of $7,235.00, made possible by four designated funds to support their efforts:
Books For Babies Fund was established in 2009, to purchase age appropriate books for mothers of newborns at RGH. The initiative is intended to encourage parents to read to their children. Utilizing the ‘Building over Time’ option, Margaret Ann Bays, former chair of the Raleigh County Reading Council; Kathy Bailey, patient educator at Raleigh General Hospital; Amy Lilly, former director of the Raleigh County Public Libraries; and Cynthia Bickey, were instrumental in implementing the ‘Books for Babies’ program. The Friends of Shady Spring Library Fund was established in 2001, to support library services. A bequest from Ethel B. Trail, the generosity of Shady Spring Library patrons, and a gift that was matched by the Walker Foundation funded this endowment. Total Distributed Over Time | $44,686.65
The Raleigh County Public Library Endowment Fund was established in 1988, to forever benefit the library. Ms. Helen Jane Couch left a bequest in her will to create this fund. Total Distributed Over Time | $53,177.69
The William and Virginia Yunker Endowment Fund was established by the Yunker family in 2000, to support the Raleigh and Fayette County Libraries. Total Distributed Over Time | $34,776.02”
