BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – February is American Heart Month – a time during which individuals are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. Each year, Raleigh General Hospital reinforces this notion with its annual Heart Fair event.
The event occurs yearly at the Raleigh General Hospital Education Center located behind the main hospital facility and offers everything from health screenings and heart health-related information to interactive displays and delicious snacks.
Having made its return last year after being sidelined for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Heart Fair aims to actively engage members of the community in the process of achieving and maintaining heart health.
“We really try to make this an interactive experience, this pathway to heart health, because it is so important,” explains Raleigh General Hospital Director of Marketing and Communications, Courtney Rosemond during this year’s Heart Fair, which was held on Friday. “Really I think to take away from this event is that we want to equip our community with education and information in the case that, if there is an emergency, whether it’s themselves or a loved one, that they’re able to take care of them.”
Various vendors were set up for the event to provide additional education and resources, including Amedisys, CenterWell Home Health, Zoll Cardiac Management Solutions, Valley College, PCH Home Health, Shockwave Medical, Jan Care Ambulance Service, Eppy’s Drug, and others.
“We’ve got our ambulance services here, we have our emergency department to go over what happens if you are having a heart attack; what those steps are and how you can be prepared,” said Rosemond. “But on top of that, we also have some education and some great vendors that will help us educate on the whole heart process and how to keep our heart healthy as well.”
