FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Ray “Wes” Toney, a dedicated public servant and lifelong resident of Fayette County, has officially announced his candidacy for Circuit Judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit of West Virginia.
A 2003 graduate of Fayetteville High School, Toney went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division. His tour of duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom shaped the commitment to service that has guided his career ever since. After returning home, he earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law as a recipient of the prestigious Bloom Scholarship.
With a broad and accomplished legal background, Toney has worked in various areas of practice, including criminal law, employment law, medical malpractice, felony and misdemeanor cases, family law, abuse and neglect matters, and numerous other areas of law. Throughout his career, he has been honored with multiple awards and professional recognition for his leadership, legal skill, and dedication to the people he serves. He has also served the State of West Virginia as a Senate attorney, expanding his experience in legislative and statewide legal matters.
Toney twice served Fayette County as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney before rising to the role of Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. He currently leads the Toney Law Firm, PLLC, the practice he founded, and serves as the City Prosecutor for Oak Hill.
In announcing his candidacy, Toney reflected on his longstanding ties to the community.
“It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to spend my adult years serving the community that raised me,” he said. “This judicial vacancy carries one of the heaviest dockets in the state, and the citizens of Fayette County deserve a judge who knows their courts, understands their needs, and has the experience to manage the complexities of this docket with competence and efficiency.”
Toney emphasized that his diverse legal experience, public service background, and deep community connection have prepared him to serve with fairness, diligence, and integrity.
Wes resides on the border of Oak Hill and Fayetteville with his wife, Tega, their two sons, Haden and Spencer, and their three beloved dogs, Abraham, Lincoln, and Teddy.
