HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Recent rains in the area have caused further damage to the 17th Avenue culvert collapse in Hinton.
The City says that they are aware of the recent damage and that the site is currently being monitored by the West Virginia Department of Highways. The site is scheduled to be inspected by officials with the WVDOH to determine a plan for the coming week.
“State DOH officials have determined on our behalf and theirs that it’s best to close off the old drainage culvert and build a new one,” the City of Hinton stated in a post on their Facebook page. “This engineering has already begun. This is an extremely important issue for us and we have been in contact with State Highway officials since it happened.”
The nearly 100-year-old culvert collapse was last recorded at 38 feet deep.
