HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) It was announced Monday that the American Red Cross is currently conducting door-to-door assessments in an attempt to survey the damage incurred in affected areas as a result of recent flooding throughout the city of Huntington.
Substantial storms occurring Friday morning and afternoon brought about major flooding in major areas throughout the city including Enslow Park, Hal Greer Boulevard, and Fourpole Creek.
The rapidly progressing storms eventually brought about a State of Emergency declaration by Huntington City Mayor Steve Williams, who began the process of taking steps to mitigate the situation through correspondence with firefighters, police officers, and Public Works crews.
The American Red Cross is now going door-to-door in these severely impacted areas in order to assess damage caused by the flood. This information will go to federal and state agencies for further assessment. Residents can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS ext 4 (disaster-related needs) to request a damage assessment survey.
Resources such as flood-cleanup kits have been distributed by the City of Huntington throughout the progression and aftermath of the flooding.
Despite resource shortages which initially occurred during distribution on Saturday, a plentiful supply of flood cleanup kits is now available. These resources can be obtained by contacting Cabell County EMS at (304) 526-9797 during standard business hours. These kits contain supplies such as sponges, rubber gloves, garbage bags, and bleach.
