CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The first sessions for the 86th West Virginia Legislature got underway this week as members of the House of Delegates convened on the House Floor at noon on Wednesday.
This initial session was a brief affair which saw several House Resolutions adopted, including House Resolution 1 – authorizing the appointment of employees for this, the Second Regular Session of the Eighty-sixth Legislature, 2024.
Also adopted were House Resolution 2 – Authorizing printing and distribution of Acts and Journals of the House, and House Resolution 3 – Creating a Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
House Speaker Roger Hanshaw (R-62) is the lead sponsor of House Resolution 3, which states: Artificial Intelligence is a current and evolving technology, and this technology should be studied to ensure its proper application; The State continues to seek methods which would address these issues, which would ensure an educated, skilled, dedicated and diversified workforce, and this issue can, and has, been addressed through appropriate legislative action.”
The committee will remain active for at least the remainder of the 86th Legislature and will be made up of no more than eleven members of the House of Delegates, to be appointed by Speaker Hanshaw.
