HINTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – The town of Hinton shared some exciting news on Tuesday. According to Chris Meadows, City Manager, Regency Properties has signed a deal with the city to put a Roses Department Store in the old Magic Mart location on Stokes Drive.
The Magic Mart closed in 2018 and Meadows says it has been hard to find another business to take its place. Now that a deal has been signed, he says it will be great for Hinton residents who have been forced to travel to Beckley, Princeton and Lewisburg to shop.
“This is a big deal,” he shared. “It’s hard to get department stores to move to small towns, so it’s a great thing for us to get a department store to come to Hinton. We have been living off dollar stores for years and we have needs that dollar stores can’t fill. It’ll be a huge relief for the community.”
In addition to welcoming a new business, Meadows says residents can also keep their eyes peeled for new jobs.
“This will create a lot of opportunities for work. People can work on the construction site, they can put shelves back together, the store is even hiring staff,” he said. “Magic Mart employed about 20 people so that’s at least 20 new jobs.”
Construction on the building is set to begin soon. Regency Properties hopes to have Roses Department Store open by October 1, 2022.
