SHADY SPRING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Shady Spring High School is mourning the loss of longtime educator and coach Joey Beckett, who passed away recently, school officials announced.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our teacher, coach, colleague, and friend, Mr. Joey Beckett.”
Mr. Beckett served the Shady Spring High School community for more than 20 years.
During his career, he impacted generations of students as a biology and science teacher and coached both soccer and track.
In more recent years, he continued working closely with students as the school’s in-school suspension teacher.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Beckett was a familiar presence on campus each morning, greeting student drivers while monitoring the parking lot and ensuring students arrived on time and parked in their assigned spaces.
School officials shared a lighthearted remembrance reflecting his personality and dedication: “We like to think Mr. Beckett is now in Heaven, reminding the angels to slow down, and to make sure they’re not late for the next thing on the schedule.”
Administrators say Mr. Beckett’s influence will be long-lasting.
“His impact, his dedication, and his legacy will be felt at Shady Spring High School for years to come. We are deeply grateful for the time we were blessed to share his life with him.”
The school extended condolences to Mr. Beckett’s loved ones, stating, “We extend our deepest sympathy to the Beckett family and all who loved him.”
