Charleston, WV (LOOTPRESS)- Incumbent Randy Smith (R) has won the race for Senate District 14 over David Childers (D). Smith was first elected for the Senate in 2012, representing the 53rd district. He held his seat until 2017, when he was elected to represent the 14th district. District 14 covers Barbour, Hardy, Preston, Taylor and Tucker County, as well as parts of Grant, Mineral and Monongalia County.
Smith currently acts as Chair on the Energy, Industry and Mining Committee, the Energy Committee and the Water Resources Committee. He is a coal miner with over 40 years of experience and a small business owner. In the past, Smith has fought for better roads, lower taxes, a smaller and more efficient state government, a better business climate, and traditional West Virginia family values.
According to his campaign, this term, Smith will still champion his dream to “Fix the Darn Roads,” a bill of which Smith was the lead sponsor last year. The bill, which would lead to fixing the state’s deteriorating secondary roads, was vetoed by the governor but Smith says he still plans to fight for the bill’s passing.
