ANSTED, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The historic Page-Vawter House in Ansted has attracted history enthusiasts and sightseer’s for years. The historic home has been elegantly preserved on both the inside and out, and now the public can book a private room in the house.
In 1890, the home was built by company carpenters of the Gauley Mountain Coal Company for the family of company president William N. Page.
The Victorian-style mansion is located on the west end of the town of Ansted near Hawks Nest State Park. In the home, Page lived with his wife and four children and had a staff of eight servants.
The home was designed by architect William Minter and consists of 15 regular rooms with a butler’s pantry and a dressing room. There are hand-carved fireplaces in 11 rooms. The exterior has 52 8-foot-tall windows.
For the historians and rail enthusiasts, it is said that Page developed plans for the construction of the Virginian Railway in this home.
After the passing of William Page, the home was occupied by different generations of the Page family and then later purchased by private buyers.
Rooms in the historic Page-Vawter House are now available for overnight stays on Airbnb. One room costs $125 per night. Porches, kitchen, media room, living room, library, den, and dining room are all open for guests to use and explore.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
