Fairlea – With a spot in the state tournament on the line, Greenbrier East was hoping to find some more of the magic that helped it hand St. Albans its first loss of the season on Monday.
The search came up empty.
The Red Dragons hammered out 14 hits, beating East 8-2 Wednesday night, clinching the Class AAA Region 3 championship and with it a spot in the state tournament.
The barrage started in the second inning with a Taylor Glancy home run. When the smoke cleared the Red Dragons led 3-0, adding two more in the third.
East got on the board in the fourth but St. Albans fired back with its final three runs of the game in the fifth inning.
In her final game as a Spartan, East senior Annabelle Honaker led the team with two hits.
Glancy paced St. Albans with three hits, driving in two runs.
The Red Dragons (30-1) will play John Marshall on Tuesday in the first game of the Class AAA state tournament at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.
