STONE CLIFF, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials with the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve have announced that the Stone Cliff Campground along with the Stone Cliff Trail will be closed to visitors this week until Friday, November 18th.
The National Park Service has closed this area of the Park to allow maintenance crews to work to remove multiple hazardous trees and improve safety in the Stone Cliff area.
The Stone Cliff Campground and Trail is located about two miles from the town of Thurmond and the Dun Glen Day Use Area.
The New River Gorge National Park & Preserve has six other official camping areas within the Park: Army Camp, Grandview Sandbar, Glade Creek, War Ridge, Brooklyn, and Thayer.
While the Stone Cliff Trail is closed, the Southside, Rend, and Thurmond Trails are all three nearby and could serve as an alternative during the closure.
