BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Stratton Elementary has announced an upcoming mural project geared at alumni of the school.
Stratton Elementary is currently in the process of conducting several projects which will acknowledge and honor the legacy of Stratton, including the mural project set to take place on Sunday.
This project will involve participating alumni painting a design on a 4 x 4 tile which will be used as part of a mural in the new school’s cafeteria.
Tiles used will incorporate variations of a yellow, green, or blue color scheme, and painters are encouraged to consider their design beforehand.
Designs used should pertain to memories of Stratton or what the school means to the designer, and can be as simple as a basic shape such as a basketball.
Tiles will be issued on a first come first paint basis and all tiles will be reviewed before being utilized to ensure that the designs are appropriate for school use.
The event will take place on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Stratton Elementary School Gymnasium from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Additionally, the new Stratton Elementary School will feature a Tribute Space, which will entail a room used to honor the legacy of Stratton High School, Stratton Junior High School, and Stratton Elementary School.
Memorabilia for use in the Tribute Space is currently being sought by Raleigh County Schools, and may be loaned or donated to the school system.
Those who donate will be identified by the school system via an engraved recognition plate within the Tribute Space.
Types of memorabilia items being sought include school newspapers, yearbooks, uniforms, shirts, letterman jackets, photos, and individual awards/recognitions, though potential memorabilia should not be limited to the items listed.
Those seeking further information on the mural or Tribute Space projects are encouraged to contact Assistance Superintendent Dr. Serena Starcher by phone at (304) 256-4500 ext. 3334 or by email at sistarch@k12.wv.us.
