CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Senator Mike Stuart (7th District), the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia and a candidate for West Virginia Attorney General, announced that he will soon travel to the Texas border to visit with border personnel, meet with local citizens, and see conditions related to the Biden Administration’s open border policy.
“I want to see it first-hand. By all reports, our southern border is an unmitigated human disaster. The Biden Administration has encouraged this disaster and it must end. An open southern border is not only an American crisis but also a West Virginia crisis,” said former United States Attorney and candidate for West Virginia Attorney General Mike Stuart. “Millions are crossing the border every year but, even worse, there are known terrorists, cartel members, human traffickers, violent criminals and massive amounts of deadly drugs like fentanyl freely entering our country each and every day.”
“As United States Attorney, I took enough fentanyl off the streets of West Virginia to kill more than 40 million people. Fentanyl is flooding West Virginia from our southern border and, when it gets here, it kills our kids, destroys families, and crushes the social fabric of our communities. I embraced too many families at the point of their greatest grief,” said Stuart. “As Attorney General, I will use every resource at my disposal including the federal courts to end the free flow of fentanyl and other illicit drugs from our southern border into West Virginia. It begins with stopping Biden’s open border policy.”
Stuart will be traveling to McAllen, Texas, and the regional border area on September 28th through September 30th. The visit is hosted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (“FAIR”), a non-partisan, public interest organization with a support base comprising nearly 50 private foundations. FAIR evaluates policies, seeking out solutions that help reduce the negative impact of uncontrolled immigration on the nation’s security, economy, workforce, education, healthcare, and environment.
“This Biden crisis of illegal immigration must end. The human toll is too great and American taxpayers are sustaining billions and billions in costs every year as a result of this terrible situation. We cannot sustain this level of illegal entry into the United States,” said Stuart. “As the next Attorney General of West Virginia, I fully intend to work closely with my fellow Attorneys General to ensure the safety of our citizens. We must end this uncontrolled disaster.”
Stuart served as West Virginia Co-Chair to President Trump’s successful campaign in 2016. President Trump nominated Stuart as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia and he was confirmed to the post by the United States Senate with the support of Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Capito.
As United States Attorney, the chief federal law enforcement officer in the District, Stuart led the historic prosecution of two Justices of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, prosecuted the largest Medicaid fraud case in West Virginia history, spearheaded the largest drug raid in the history of West Virginia (“Operation Saigon Sunset” in Huntington that targeted nearly 100 defendants with more than 250 law enforcement officers at the federal, state and local levels), prosecuted one of the largest elder fraud prosecutions in the country, and led the largest methamphetamine bust in the history of West Virginia.
