MT. HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Burlington United Methodist Family Services teamed with Sugar Bear’s Fun Shop of the Crossroads Mall on Saturday to inform Raleigh County residents about National Adoption Month.
Each November, community leaders and organizations across the country join together to raise awareness for the hundreds of thousands of children and teens throughout the United States currently in foster care awaiting a safe, loving home.
“Burlington United Methodist Family Services is promoting National Adoption Month with the aid of Sugar Bear’s to get people aware [of the] need for foster parents for all ages,” said Burlington’s home finder Lisa Parkulo speaking with LOOTPRESS at the event.
“We are doing popcorn and cotton candy, and we have fliers with adoption information.”
While the need is great for foster and adoptive parents for children of all ages, there is a particularly great need with regard to older children as potential families often gravitate toward those in younger age groups.
“We are trying to promote getting foster parents, and we always have foster parents who are wanting to foster for younger children,” Parkulo explains. “We need foster parents for children that are [around] 10 and up. Our number is (304) 254 0421, feel free to just call and ask for the Foster Care Department and they’ll be glad to help you out.”
Burlington United Methodist Family Services offers an array of services including foster care, adoption, visitation, and recovery services, among others. But Green says the prime objective of the event at Sugar Bear’s is to spread the world about adoption awareness and the need for adoptive and foster parents.
“We do foster care we do residential programs, we have safe at home programs, but our big thing today is that we’re promoting National Adoption Month,” she says.
Burlington United Methodist Family Service’s will be set up at Sugar Bear’s until 4:00pm Saturday, so stop in and learn more about National Adoption Month.
