Thanks to President Biden, Americans are now facing crises on all fronts. Small businesses are desperate for workers, gas stations are out of gas, food prices are increasing, inflation is soaring, and manufacturing and fossil fuel jobs are on the decline. Meanwhile, Joe Biden continues to create crisis after crisis and promote handout after handout, stifling economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most alarmingly, the border crisis continues to worsen under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 178,622 illegal immigrants were apprehended trying to cross the southern border in April–the highest one-month total in 20 years. Even worse, 17,171 of those trying to cross the border were unaccompanied minors.
Looking back on the news coverage during the 2018 border spike, the average person would be led to believe that the current migrant surge at the border pales in comparison to the crisis in 2018. You know, the same crisis that moved AOC to tears, prompted Democrats to compare holding facilities to ‘concentration camps’, and Time magazine’s cover of Donald Trump towering menacingly over a crying migrant child. The DOJ directive known as “Zero Tolerance” was quickly labeled “ripping children from their parents’ arms” according to Democrat talking points and cable new pundits.
However, the supposed “crisis” of 2018, was nothing compared to the current Biden Border Crisis. At the highest peak of Trump’s presidency, 144,000 migrants were apprehended. Within one month, that number was down to 104,000 and experienced a steady decline each month. The monthly average of migrant crossings during the Trump administration was roughly 47,096 migrants per month. Under President Biden that number has skyrocketed to an average of 151,030 migrants per month according to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. This is an increase of nearly 321% under President Biden than during the Trump presidency.
How did this crisis form so rapidly? The answer is simple. This is a humanitarian crisis of Joe Biden’s creation and the responsibility falls squarely at his feet. During his relatively short tenure in office, Biden has revoked immigration policies implemented under the Trump administration that enhanced border security. For example, he halted construction of the border wall and ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy which ordered migrants to stay in Mexico or their home nation while asylum claims were pending in the United States.
Constant incentives from this administration have enticed migrants longing for a better life to come to United States illegally. During an interview with a migrant who crossed the border illegally, ABC news asked the following,
“Would you have tried to do this when Donald Trump was president?”
Migrant: “Definitely not.”
ABC reporter: “Did you come here because Joe Biden was elected president?”
Migrant: “Basically!”
United States Senators including some Senate Democrats have called on President Biden to act before the surge becomes unstoppable and irreparable. State officials across the nation have called on President Biden, including a group of West Virginia House Delegates, led by Delegate Phil Mallow, who penned a letter to President Biden urging him to take responsibility and address the crisis at the southern border.
President Biden must take responsibility and stop pretending that this issue will fade away if he keeps ignoring it. Needless to say, residents of border states including the swing state of Arizona likely didn’t hand Biden the presidency in hopes that he would create a crisis at their backdoor in less than four months.
