WYOMING COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Twin Falls Resort is joining a national effort and giving its guests the opportunity to start 2022 off right. The State Park- and other state parks in all 50 states- will host a First Day Hike on Saturday, January 1.
Participants at Twin Falls will join Tammy Cooper, an outdoorswoman and naturalist, for a refreshing hike through the park. Those who choose to hike with Cooper will earn their First Day Hike patch.
According to the American Hiking Society (AHS), last year, 55,000 people rang in the new year, collectively hiking more than 133,000 miles throughout the country.
In addition to giving some background information on the national effort, AHS also shares some valuable hiking tips on its website.
As for the hike at Twin Falls, participants are asked to meet at the park’s campground store at 1 p.m. on Saturday to get started to hike the Cliffside Trail, a three-mile-long lightly trafficked trail that is good for all skill levels.
The trail does have a 311-foot elevation gain.
Hikers are asked to wear appropriate outerwear and winter shoes or boots as the trail is rocky in places and some areas are moderately steep.
