CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An adult female and a juvenile male were the victims of a fire at their home in Martinsburg on Monday.
The fire occurred around 12:50 A.M. in the early morning of January 23rd. Fire departments from Bedington, Martinsburg, and Berkeley County responded to the home, located at 90 Cottage Road in Martinsburg.
The initial call indicated that there may be a person or persons trapped in the home and when firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered and evacuated one person from the home. That person was given extensive life-saving measures but attempts at revival were unsuccessful. A second victim was also found and pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters encountered a fire in the home’s master bedroom, with some additional damage to the rest of the home. WV State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators, assisted by the Loudoun County, Virginia Fire Marhsal’s Office, searched the scene and determined that the fire did, indeed, start in the master bedroom but the fire is still under investigation at this time.
The victims have been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Charleston, WV for autopsy and positive identification.
