BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Raleigh County Commission convened on Tuesday for their first Regular Session meeting of the new year, which saw to reappointments to the Raleigh County Building Code Appeals Board.
Appearing near the end of an extensive session agenda, the “appointments” portion of the meeting entailed, among other things, the respective reappointments of J. Dan Snead and Randy Vest to the Raleigh County Building Code Appeals Board in terms which will expire in five years’ time – 1/9/29.
William R. Peery was appointed to the Raleigh County Memorial Airport Board on Tuesday as well, in a term which is set to expire on June 30, 2025.
Some confusion was incurred during the appointments, however, as Heather Ouimette was included as part of the agenda to be appointed to the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority Board.
Commission President Dave Tolliver stated that the appointment would need to be placed on hold, as there was no vacancy on the board. Commissioner Duckworth then indicated that his board term was set to expire, thus theoretically creating the necessary vacancy.
Both Commission President Tolliver and Commissioner Epling indicated that it was their understanding a commission member was to remain on the NRGRDA Board, and it was suggested that Commissioner Duckworth officially resign by way of a letter indicating his intention to do so.
The agenda item was ultimately tabled for the session pending further information, and is expected to be revisited during the next meeting of the Raleigh County Commission on January 23, 2024.
