The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has released nine fighters to start the month of May.
Among these fighters are veterans of the sport, such as Luke Sanders and Anthony Birchak. While both of these fighters haven’t been winning many matches recently, they were loved by the crowd.
Most of the fighters who were let go this month had fought at least six times during their careers in the UFC. All of these fighters had previously lost at least two consecutive times.
While there were more fighters than usual let go at once, this is not the first time the UFC has expectantly let go of some of their fighters.
In 2020, the UFC dismissed over 100 fighters, including mixed martial arts legends Anderson Silva and Yoel Remaro.
Even fan-favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone does not look like he has much time left with the organization. After his fifth straight loss last Saturday, UFC president Dana White stated Cerrone only has one fight left with them for now.
