UPDATE: BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Police Department investigates the shooting death of an eighteen-year-old male, identified as Dewayne Marquette Richardson Jr. that occurred in Beckley at approximately 9:24 p.m. last night in the 500 Block of Terrill Street.
Officers along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who were responding to the shooting were flagged down on S. Fayette Street at Truman Avenue by a vehicle whose occupants were transporting the victim to the hospital. Officers observed the victim was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest area. EMS immediately began providing life-saving measures while transporting the victim to Raleigh General Hospital. The victim was flown by helicopter to a Charleston Area Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Richardson was a senior at Woodrow Wilson High School, where he excelled in basketball, leading his team to the State Tournament being held this week, and he was scheduled to graduate later this month.

UPDATE: Raleigh County Superintendent David Price confirms to Lootpress that the 18-year-old who died was a Woodrow Wilson High School student. The student played for the Flying Eagles basketball team.
Price says that they have grief counselors at the school for anyone that may need to talk. He also adds: “Our prayers go out to his family.”

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Beckley Police are investigating a deadly shooting that left an 18-year-old boy dead.
According to detectives, the shooting occurred last night at approximately 9:24 pm in the 500 block of Terrill Street in Beckley. A vehicle transporting the victim to the hospital was located shortly afterward on S. Fayette Street in the area of Truman Street.
An 18-year-old male suffered from a single gunshot wound, then transported by EMS to Raleigh General Hospital, and then transferred to a Charleston hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No arrests have been made at this time, but police do have a person of interest.
Names are not being released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing by the Beckley Police Dept. Detective Bureau.
No additional information is being released at this time.
Beckley police previously reported the victim was 17-years-old, but released new information saying he was 18.
