UPDATE: BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A suspect has been arrested after two people were shot, leaving one dead.
According to Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputies, Zephaniah Joe Branham was arrested and charged in connection to the shooting that occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Country Inn and Suites on Harper Road in Beckley.
Branham is charged with first-degree murder, malicious wounding, and delivery of a controlled substance. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail.

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Sunday, May 8, 2022, at approximately 3:45 PM, deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at Country Inn and Suites on Harper Road.
Deputies say two gunshot victims were located on the third floor. One died at the scene; the other was transported to a local hospital for gunshot wounds.
The victim’s name is being withheld at this time to ensure proper notification of family members.
The West Virginia State Police, State Police Special Response Team, and the Beckley Police Department assisted with this situation.
Country Inn & Suites associates declined to remark on the incident when reached for comment.
