Velva Elizabeth Day, 84, of Princeton Avenue, Princeton, died Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born, May 25, 1936 in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late Everett Yates and Lacy Brooks Yates. Velva was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved the Lord, loved to pray, loved to sing gospel songs and loved sitting out on her front porch. Velva was a member of The Free Pentecostal Church of God on Harrison Street. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Dewey Day, one son, Richard Lee Day, grandson, Craig Day, son-in-law, Allen Wolford and her siblings, Walter, Carl, Vernon, Francis, Evelyn and Virginia. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Jeanette Kanode, David Day and wife Darlene who is special daughter-in-law, Robin Alvey and husband Earl, Dreama Holcomb and husband Jeff, Rhonda Thompson; Loving brother, Scotty Yates and wife Nancy; Twelve loving grandchildren; Seventeen loving great-grandchildren; Several loving nieces, nephews, friends and her church family. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 10, 2021 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Pastor David Barnette officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the services are requested to meet no later than 1:30 P.M. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton.
