CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Charleston Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development (MOECD) will hold an in-person public meeting on Thursday, June 1 at 10 AM to discuss the City’s 2023-2024 Annual Action Plan and the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funds, which is consistent with the City’s 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan.
This public meeting will provide an opportunity for comment on the draft FY 2023 Annual Action Plan, which is currently on display at www.charlestonwv.gov/government/city departments/ moecd.
All interested persons, groups, and organizations are encouraged to participate in this public meeting and will be provided the opportunity to provide comments) concerning the proposed plan and use of Federal funds under the FY 2023-2024 Annual Action Plan.
The primary objective of the CDBG Program is the development of viable communities, including decent housing, suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income residents.
CDBG is an acronym for the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program. The CDBG program is authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. Its primary objective is the development of viable urban communities. Viable communities are achieved by providing:
- A decent housing
- A suitable living environment; and
- Expanded economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income people.
The Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community (MOECD) fosters public, private, and intergovernmental collaborations to improve and develop a viable urban community. MOECD’s mission is to provide safe, decent housing targeted to low-to-moderate income persons, foster suitable living environments and expand economic opportunities.
