WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Demand for feeder cattle continues to be strong across the US and locally and that is reflected in this week’s reports. On the national markets Live Cattle are trading at $1.30, Feeder Cattle at $1.55, Lean Hogs at $.75, and Corn at $5.79.
Locally, Narrows Livestock Market reported 559 head on Saturday October 30th with 400-600lb steers averaging $157.00, 400-600lb heifers coming in at $121.00 average. On the slaughter side cows averaged $.50 while bulls come in at $.81 average. Cattlemen’s Livestock Exchange reported from their Friday Oct 29th sale 433 total head with 400-600lb steers ranging from $135.00-173.00 with heifers of the same weight coming in at $121.00-125.00. On the slaughter side cows averaged $58.69 while bulls came in at $86.57. Staunton Union Stockyard reported from their Friday Oct 29th sale a total of 1605 total head (including board cattle), 400-600lb steers came in from $150.00-170.00 with heifers of that weight ranging from $121.00-125.00(Detailed Market Reports can be found at ams.usda.gov).
Finally, this week we are sending out a huge congratulations to Kora Hawkins of Jan Lew, WV as she was honored at last week National Hereford Association Annual Meeting. Kora was awarded the Reserve Champion Purebred Hereford Pen of 3 as part of the National Junior Hereford Association Fed Steer Shootout. This program was developed as a way for cattlemen and women across the country to prove the worth of their genetics. Kora competed against over 40 other juniors from over 15 states. Congratulations to the entire Hawkins family.
