CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Transportation (DOT) and Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) are mourning the death of one of their own after a car accident claimed the life of DMV employee Marvin Smith Jr. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Smith worked as a Dealer Inspector at the DMV and was recognized by colleagues for his professionalism, compassion, and commitment to serving the public.
Officials said his contributions left a lasting impact on both coworkers and the community.
“We are heartbroken to hear of the loss of one of our own,” said Everett Frazier, Commissioner of the DMV.
“His commitment to public service exemplified the very best of our mission. This is a tremendous loss to both the DMV and DOT family, and we extend our deepest condolences to Marvin’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Barlow & Bonsall Funeral Home, located at 1118 Virginia St. in Charleston.
Visitation begins at noon, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m.
