West Virginia is the state most obsessed with Fortnite in America, a new study has shown.
The research, carried out by online gaming experts at SolitaireBliss analyzed Google Trends data of various search terms associated with Fortnite in the United States. These terms were then combined to give each state a ‘total search score’ in order to discover which states are most obsessed with Fortnite over the last 12 months.
The study revealed that West Virginia ranks number one on the list, displaying the highest interest in Fortnite with a total search score of 750. West Virginia ranked the highest in its population searching for the terms ‘Fortnite item shop’ and ‘Fortnite chapter 3’. West Virginia showed low interest however among the states in the search term ‘Fortnite weapons.’
Midwestern state Kansas is America’s second most interested state about Fortnite, with a total search score of 678. Kansas ranked the highest of any state searching for ‘Fortnite weapons’. Kansas saw the biggest spike in interest during the festive period last year, with search results for ‘Fortnite’ hitting its peak.
Oklahoma places as the third state most interested in Fortnite. The southern state ranked in the top five states searching for ‘Fortnite battle royale’. In addition to this Oklahoma also has the second highest searches for ‘Fortnite item shop’ resulting in a total search score of 665.
The state of Kentucky also ranks as one of America’s states most interested in Fortnite, placing fourth overall. With a total search score of 657, Kentucky ranked the highest on the list of states searching for ‘Fortnite tracker’ and the third highest state searching for ‘Fortnite item shop’.
Rounding up the top five is Mississippi with a total search score of 614. It ranks as the highest of any state searches for ‘Fortnite redeem’.
Nebraska is the sixth most Fortnite obsessed state. The state has the third highest number of searches in America for ‘Fortnite tracker’, which secured its sixth position in the rankings and gave the state a total search score of 607.
In the seventh position in the rankings is Indiana, with a total search score of 606. The state saw the joint second highest number of searches in America for ‘Fortnite chapter 3’ which helped it secure its seventh position.
Missouri places eighth in the rankings, with the state in the top five in searches for ‘Fortnite.’ This help’s the state score of 596. The three highest state searches are ‘Fortnite’, ‘Fortnite Twitter’ and ‘Fortnite chapter 3.’
The ranking reveals Arkansas is the ninth most Fortnite interested state in America, with 591 as a total search score. The state had the highest searches in America for ‘Fortnite mobile.’ This helped it finish in the top 10 despite ranking 11th lowest for searches in ‘Fortnite Twitter.’
The tenth state in the rankings and is revealed to be the tenth most Fortnite obsessed state in America is Rhode Island. Rhode Island has a total search score of 586, with the state ranking number one for searches in ‘Fortnite skins.’
A spokesperson from SolitaireBliss commented on the findings: “Fortnite is still a hugely popular video game in America, with the top ten Fortnite obsessed states consisting primarily of Southern or middle America states. This is also reflected with well known Fortnite streamers, such as former Twitch and current Youtube streamer, Drlupo, a Nebraska Native and Fortnite gamer who has amassed a huge 129 million views on Youtube with his Fortnite content.
“With the Winter period approaching and seasonal events such as Christmas and Black Friday upcoming undoubtedly Fortnite gaming will be more popular and consumer interest will peak.”
