WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced Tuesday that the West Virginia National Guard will continue its mission in Washington, D.C., through the remainder of the year to support public safety operations in the nation’s capital.
“President Trump’s leadership in prioritizing the safety and security of our nation’s capital has enabled this vital mission, and our brave Guardsmen are proud to volunteer and make Washington, D.C. safer and stronger.” Morrisey said.
“The men and women of the West Virginia National Guard stand firmly with President Trump in this effort, and we are honored to support his commitment to public safety.”
The West Virginia National Guard has been deployed in Washington, D.C., since August 2025 in support of the D.C. National Guard Joint Task Force.
According to the governor’s office, Guard members are providing logistics, administrative and public affairs support, Joint Staff augmentation, and both static and roving patrols. Officials said the extended deployment reflects the Guard’s ongoing role in assisting with missions beyond state borders when called upon.
Major General Jim Seward said the mission highlights the Guard’s preparedness and professionalism.
“This mission reflects the high level of readiness and professionalism of the West Virginia National Guard,” Seward said.
“Our men and women are well-trained, prepared to serve wherever they are called, and trusted to carry out any task. I am proud to serve with them and proud of the way they represent our state.”
