August 8 and August 15: Mount Hope’s Music on Main
From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 8, and Sunday, August 15, Harmony for Hope will host Music on Main. This event will take place every Sunday until September 12, 2021.
Join Harmony for Hope each Sunday morning on Main Street for inspirational music, coffee and community. Get updated on what’s going on in the area, share stories about what you’re doing and enjoy the company of neighbors on your way to your Sunday morning place of worship.
This event will take place outdoors.
August 8: Peak of the Bloom Sunflowers
Camp Creek State Park and other Mercer County businesses and attractions are inviting all to “Peak of the Bloom” at multiple locations.
The event on August 8 will last from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature various activities at Camp Creek State Park such as yoga, meditation, a mushroom walk, photo excursions, picnics and more.
Discover a hidden treasure in a remote area of the park’s forest: a field of wildflowers in their peak bloom. Celebrate the art of nature at Camp Creek and Mercer Street Grassroots District with guided Plein air painting, concerts, poetry and artisan markets.
This event will be held daily until August 14, 2021.

August 8: Tamarack Courtyard Concerts
The Tamarack Marketplace Courtyard Concert series is scheduled to welcome the WV Brass Quintet to the stage from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
The event will offer free live music in Tamarack’s outdoor courtyard. Guests will be able to browse through the center’s retail space and Fine Art Gallery following the show.

The Uptown Farmer’s Market will be open at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The market will be open from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Market vendors will accept senior coupons.
August 11: Pub n’ Play
Join those at the Gaines Estate on Wednesday, August 11, for Pub n’ Play- a night filled with fun, laughter and delicious drinks. The house bar will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
According to event organizers, there will be yard games, live music and food trucks.

Brighter days are here! The annual West Virginia State Fair will take place from August 12 to August 21, 2021, in Fairlea.

August 12: Food, Friends & Painting
Thursday, August, 12 City National Bank, located in Beckley Park Avenue, will host Food, Friends and Painting.
The event will serve as a fundraiser to help support the Raleigh County Veterans Museum as it prepares to move to a new location.
The event, which is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., is operating with limited seating. Call 304-255-7000 to reserve a seat. Tickets must be prepaid by August 10.
August 12: Ivy Terrace Concert presents Andrew Adkins & Friends
Andrew Adkins & Friends will perform at Lewisburg’s Carnegie Hall from 7 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. on Thursday, August 12.
Adkins, a singer, songwriter, guitarist and mandolin player, has fronted the popular Appalachian strompgrass band “The Wild Rampus” for almost a decade. Together the band has performed at countless festivals, clubs and at the AMAs.
Having firmly established his own voice outside of “The Wild Rampus.” Adkins recently released his fourth solo album, “Who I Am,” on Mountain Soul Records.
Often accompanied by his close friend, bass player, and long-time collaborator Clint Lewis, Adkins’ performances are said to leave a lasting impression.
Attendees can watch the concert from the lawn in front of the New River Community and Technical College. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pack a picnic to enjoy the live, outdoor concert.

August 13 through August 15: Fayetteville’s Wild Weekend
Fayetteville has a lot of fun planned for its Wild Weekend event, including live animals, a pop-up nature center, guided hikes and activities celebrating the abundance of nature in Fayette County.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 15.

August 13: Fridays in the Park
Fridays in the Park has returned to Beckley, meaning live music and food trucks will decorate Word Park in Uptown Beckley from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021.
The event’s organizers invite those far and wide to finish their workweek with lunch as they support the community, relax, and listen to local entertainment.
Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
August 13: Oak Hill Pilates at Lively Amphitheater
Join Active Southern West Virginia Community Captains for “Thank Goodness It’s Friday Pilates.”
The event will take place at the Lively Amphitheater from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 13, and will repeat weekly through September.
According to event organizers, pilates is a posture-based movement practice designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, and enhance mental awareness. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels. Modifications and up-leveling will be offered to provide an engaging movement experience for all.
Participants are asked to bring their own mat and a small towel. No other equipment is needed.

August 13 and August 14: Geology Rocks! Weekend at Twin Falls
If you like rocks, gravel, sand, and really old things like meteors and fossils, meet Ken Ashton, a geologist with the West Virginia Geological & Economic Survey, and find out the geology of the Mountain State.
“Geology Rocks!” will kick off with a geology presentation at Twin Falls Resort State Park Lodge’s Magnolia Room at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 13. The presentation will discuss the geology of West Virginia. A Saturday morning hike to view the rock formations at Twin Falls will follow at 10 a.m.
This event is excellent for any age, free to attend and open to the public.
Those who attend both the evening program and the morning hike will receive a “Geology Rocks!” patch- one of six special patches to be earned when attending and participating in special interpretive programs.
