William Eugene Thornton, 79, of Kegley, died Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital in Richmond. Born, February 16, 1942, in Hiawatha, he was the son of the late Edward H. Thornton and Nettie Lue Robertson Thornton. William was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle and friend who loved the Lord. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years and was honorably discharged. William worked in the coal mines, who loved hunting, westerns and retired from the City of Princeton with over 20 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Alva Christine Adkins Thornton, two sisters, Frances Sisk and Lockie Parks and four brothers, Walter Thornton, Alonzo Thornton, Donald Thornton and Giles Thornton. Left to cherish his memory are three loving sons, Edward Eugene Thornton and wife Ronda, William Joseph Thornton, Matthew Lee Thornton; Six loving grandchildren, Reshinda Thornton, Santana Thornton, Summer Thornton, Josslynne Thornton, Caleb Thornton and Bently Thornton; Several loving nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services to celebrate the life of William Eugene Thornton, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 22, 2021, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Bishop Anthony Hudgins officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park with military graveside rites provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Due to the Governor’s mandate, masks and social distancing, will be observed. Those who are unable to attend the funeral can view his services thru webcasting on our website.
