BELINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Barbour County woman is facing charges following an altercation that prompted a 911 call and police response Friday afternoon.
According to the Belington Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3:33 p.m. on March 27, 2026, to a residence on North Hice Street after a caller reported being struck before hanging up.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a ResCare employee who was working at the home at the time of the incident. The worker told police she attempted to prevent a resident from leaving through the back door out of concern for her safety and tried to deescalate the situation.
During the encounter, the resident allegedly became irate and struck the worker in the arm with a closed fist. Officers observed and photographed a bruise forming on the victim’s arm.
Police say the suspect then called 911 claiming she had been assaulted, which prompted the emergency response.
Officers later spoke with the suspect, who admitted to striking the worker but claimed she had been kicked. However, authorities reported finding no visible injuries consistent with that claim.
Based on the investigation, Sandra Higgins has been charged with battery and falsely reporting an emergency incident.
She is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
