BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Woodrow Wilson High School community is mourning the loss of longtime mathematics teacher Kaitlin McAlister, who died recently, school officials announced.
In a statement to families and students, the administration of Woodrow Wilson High School confirmed McAlister’s passing and reflected on her impact on the school and broader Beckley community.
“It is with our sincere regret that we announce the passing of one of our finest teachers and friends, Ms. Kaitlin McAlister,” the statement read.
McAlister taught mathematics at the school for nearly a decade. Originally from western Pennsylvania, she chose to make Beckley and Woodrow Wilson High School her home.
According to the statement, her dedication to students extended well beyond the classroom.
“Any time the Flying Eagles took the field or the court, you can bet that Kaitlin was there cheering on her students,” the statement said.
School leaders emphasized McAlister’s compassion and ability to connect with others, noting her influence on both colleagues and students.
“Her ability to be whoever a student needed her to be in that particular moment was a gift in every sense of the word,” the statement continued.
The school described McAlister as irreplaceable and said her legacy will continue through the daily work of educators who strive to positively impact students’ lives.
“People like Kaitlin are impossible to replace,” the statement said. “We will move forward, as we must, celebrating her contributions daily.”
The statement concluded with a message of remembrance from the school community: “Ms. McAlister, you will be missed. Your Flying Eagle Family.”
