WYOMING COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – When Greg Bishop was elected as prosecutor for Wyoming County, he knew he wanted to be proactive in handling the county’s crime, not reactive. Bishop is kickstarting this proactive approach by hosting town hall meetings that will be open to everyone in the community.
The first of these meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Westside High School Auditorium on Monday, January 10, 2022, and focus on the role of the prosecutor and his office and the impact of crime on the community’s quality of life.
“I’m a retired trooper, and I was used to having that daily contact with the community, and now, as prosecutor, I don’t have that. My goal is to take my office out into the community to talk about the role of the prosecutor’s office in the criminal justice system and community, what my goals are, and criminal behavior. I want that information from the community; I want to know what they are actually feeling and take that so I can have a more targeted approach.”
Bishop continued, emphasizing how important it is for the people of Wyoming Couty to voice their opinions and concerns.
“It’s important that they understand that I have hundreds if not thousands of cases that come through in circuit court. Obviously, I can’t try that many, so I need to get the most bang for the buck and the only way I can do that is by seeing what is really affecting our community. I am serving the public, so I need to hear from them about what is most important.”
Bishop will host two more town hall meetings following the one on January 10. The first will be at Wyoming East High School on Tuesday, January 18, and another at Huff Consolidated on Monday, January 31. Both meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Bishop hopes to host even more meetings in the future and is open to input on dates or locations. For more information, call the Wyoming County Courthouse at 304-732-8000.
