ST. ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The St. Albans Parks and Recreation Department is inviting residents and visitors to explore the outdoors during the 12th Annual “Walk on the Wild Side” Nature Hike, set for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at St. Albans City Park.
The free, family-friendly event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will center around this year’s theme, “Nature’s Wonders,” encouraging participants to learn more about the natural world through hands-on experiences and guided exploration.
Attendees can take part in guided nature hikes, environmental presentations, and interactive activities designed to highlight the relationship between humans and nature. Organizers say participants will also have opportunities to learn how to identify common plants, animals, and trees found in everyday environments.
“This event is a great way for families to get outside, learn about our natural environment, and connect with nature in an engaging, hands-on way,” said event coordinator Debbie Keener. “Each year, we strive to provide new and engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.”
Activities will include make-it-and-take-it crafts such as medallion necklaces and seed bombs, along with a variety of interactive stations like obstacle courses, painting activities, and educational games.
Several local and state organizations will also be on-site with informational displays, including the St. Albans Historical Society, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
Parks Superintendent Kevin Pennington said the event remains one of the city’s most anticipated annual gatherings.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for people to immerse themselves in the beauty of St. Albans City Park while learning about the relationship between nature and humans,” Pennington said. “We are especially excited to welcome ‘Regis’ the Bald Eagle and other educational ambassadors from the Three Rivers Avian Center.”
Food and drinks will be provided by Foundations Church of God. Participants will also have the chance to take home free items such as flower seeds, tree seedlings, and local honey, while supplies last.
Limited-edition Blenko Glass suncatchers and event T-shirts will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting future nature hike events.
The event will take place along the Nature Trail and lower park area of St. Albans City Park. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
