BELLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Sunday morning shooting involving a teenage male is currently under investigation by authorities.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, a shooting incident occurred early Sunday morning at about 3:00am. This incident reportedly took place in the Witcher Creek area of eastern Kanawha County.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy D.J. Dorsey received information regarding a possible shooting at the Exxon gas station on Witcher Creek Road in Belle, WV. Deputies responded to the area in question but were unable to locate any victims or evidence that any such incident had taken place.
Deputies continued their investigation, eventually locating a 14-year-old boy in the Chesapeake area. The juvenile was found to have sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg.
The teenager was subsequently transported to a medical facility to receive treatment for the injury, which were found to have been non-life-threatening according to investigators.
Deputies report having learned of a party alleged to have occurred on a strip mine property in the Witcher Creek area earlier in the night. This, authorities believe, is where the incident took place.
Deputies continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the shooting at the time of writing.
Additionally, no criminal charges have been filed in this case at the time of writing. Deputies and detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section are seeking witnesses to the incident or any individual with pertinent information regarding the case.
