ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A single-car motor vehicle accident involving several juveniles was investigated by Randolph County authorities on Saturday.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, on Saturday, November 5, 2022, 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle on Alleghany Highway.
Reports confirm that the accident occurred at the entrance to Poe Run Road, where Corporal Kyle and Deputy Pingley with the sheriff’s department responded to the scene.
Prior to their arrival, authorities learned that the accident involved a number of juveniles, some of which had already left the scene on foot.
Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, a male of 16 years of age, once authorities arrived on the scene.
The driver informed officers that he had swerved to avoid hitting a deer before striking a guardrail.
It was also revealed by the driver that he had consumed a few shots of alcohol earlier in the night.
Passengers on the scene, also juveniles, were found to be roughly the same age as the driver, and were found to have also consumed alcohol that night.
Parents of the remaining juveniles on scene were contacted, and contact was attempted with those who had left the scene on foot, but attempts were unsuccessful.
Officers conducted a DUI investigation with the driver of the vehicle, whose blood alcohol content (BAC) was found to be .137, beyond the legal limit for individuals under the age of 21. It was determined that alcohol had played a role in the motor vehicle accident.
The juvenile was released to his parent/guardian. Due to the age of the driver, authorities intend to file a petition at a later date through the Randolph County Prosecutor’s office for DUI.
The case remains under investigation at this time.
