MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The 167th Airlift Wing held its annual four-day extended unit training assembly, known as “super drill,” from June 5-8 at Shepherd Field in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
The extended drill provides Airmen additional time to complete mission-critical training and readiness requirements, expanding on the typical two-day drill weekend.
“This year’s focus was allowing sections to complete their specific training on Thursday and Friday,” said Col. Christopher Sigler, 167th Airlift Wing commander. “It’s a significant benefit for units that often balance serving the wing while also meeting their own training goals.”
A major training highlight was a full-scale Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) exercise led by the 167th Medical Group. The exercise included live role-players and training manikins in a simulated combat environment, enhancing the medical team’s ability to respond under pressure.
The extended schedule also allowed the wing to conduct key emergency response drills, including an active shooter exercise on the final day. By completing these requirements early, the wing can focus future drills on larger events such as the upcoming Foundational Readiness Inspection, Mission Generation Force Element certification, and Combat Readiness Exercise.
To close out the four-day training, the unit held a base-wide morale event on Sunday afternoon. Members participated in cookouts, picnics, and team sports including volleyball, pickleball, and disc golf.
“Having nearly the entire wing together for four days helped us accomplish key training, strengthen job-specific skills, and build stronger relationships across the unit,” Sigler said.
