CROSS LANES, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Cross Lanes motorist faces charges after being observed disregarding a school bus stop sign and flashing red lights on the bus’s camera system Monday.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, February 20, 2023, at around 1:22pm, a school bus stopped to allow children to exit when, just prior to the children crossing the street, a driver operating a black Pontiac G6 disregarded signage and warning lights indicating that oncoming traffic should stop.
The incident was captured on the school bus’s onboard camera system and the footage was released to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday by the Kanawha County Board of Education.
The footage was reviewed by Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Captain E.S. Drennan, who was able to identify the driver as a resident of Nitro. The driver – identified as Rex L. Fisher – was brought in to be interviewed on Thursday and criminal charges were filed.
As stated by West Virginia State Code, “a driver shall stop their vehicle before reaching the school bus, when meeting or overtaking from either direction, and when there is an operation of warning lights.”
Fisher faces fines of $500 to $1000, 6 months in jail, or both. If convicted, Fisher could also face a 60 day license revocation.
