CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 21-year-old man was arraigned in Kanawha County Circuit Court on Friday on multiple sex crime charges.
According to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Kanawha County, 21-year-old Benjamin Joseph Roy of Julian, West Virginia was informed of the charges against him by the Honorable Judge Jennifer Bailey based on an incident involving a juvenile minor which is said to have occurred on June 12, 2024.
Court documentation indicates that, on June 12, 2024, the complainant advised Deputy Walton that she had been sleeping next to the juvenile victim involved in the incident when she had been awoken by the screams of the juvenile. Upon waking, the complainant reports having witnessed Roy exiting the area pants-less.
Roy entered a “not guilty” plea on each of the two unspecified charges with which he is currently faced. It was then ordered by the court that Roy would remain incarcerated on a cash bond which was set in the amount of $100,000.
Trial for the matter is expected to occur early next year on January 13, 2025. Should he be convicted, the 21-year-old faces the maximum confinement penalty for the crimes in question and stands to face 11-to-30 years behind bars as a result of the potential conviction.
