GLEN JEAN, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – On Sunday, September 12, A 23-year-old climber from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was life-flighted to the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) after falling 50 feet during a climb.
According to Eve West, Chief of Interpretation at New River Gorge National River, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River, the individual was a lead climber on a 5.10-grade climb in the Butchers Branch section of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
The climber, whose name has not yet been released, was litter carried to the helicopter and transported from there.
Agencies involved included the National Park Service, Fayette County Rope and Rescue, Health Net Life Flight and Jan Care.
The extent of the climber’s injuries is still unknown at this time.
