WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that the West Virginia National Guard is expanding its response efforts to assist communities impacted by severe flooding across the state.
According to the governor, National Guard liaison officers have deployed to county emergency operations centers to coordinate response efforts, while swiftwater rescue teams continue assisting local emergency responders in flooded areas.
Additional engineer personnel are also being prepositioned, and aviation assets remain on standby to support operations as weather conditions permit.
State officials said approximately 100 National Guard members are arrived overnight in the Elkins and Weston/Buckhannon areas. Another 200 Guard members are expected to arrive by mid-to-late Wednesday morning to further bolster response efforts.
Governor Morrisey said state and local agencies will remain on the ground for as long as necessary to assist communities affected by the flooding as recovery and emergency operations continue across West Virginia.
