WEIRTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Weirton Police Department is warning residents about a recent spike in overdoses linked to suspected fentanyl-laced cocaine.
According to a press release issued by the department, officers responded to six overdoses over the past week involving suspected cocaine containing high amounts of fentanyl.
Police said two victims remain hospitalized, while one death has been reported.
Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush said the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force is actively investigating the overdoses.
Authorities also reported that an arrest was made for the distribution of drugs following the execution of a search warrant.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
