OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Travelers hoping to step back in time to the era of VHS tapes, wood paneling, and personal pan pizzas now have a new place to stay near New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
Nate and Rachel Adams, owners of Appalachian Escapes, have opened their sixth vacation rental in Fayette County, a fully themed getaway celebrating the nostalgia of the 1980s and early 1990s.
The “80s Nostalgia House” features a reimagined family living room straight out of Grandma’s home, a vintage video rental setup, and a Pizza Hut–style dining nook designed to capture the look and feel of the era.
When the couple purchased the property, it had been completely modernized by previous owners.
Determined to recreate an authentic throwback experience, the Adamses spent months sourcing era-specific décor — from paneled walls and shag carpeting to furniture and lighting true to the time period.
Guests will find an impressive attention to detail throughout the home, including a salad bar, functioning arcade machines, a console television with VCR, vintage toys, and magazines that defined a generation.
Every room offers a nostalgic nod to the simple joys and pop culture icons of the late 20th century.
Adding to the fun, the house doubles as a fully interactive escape room, complete with a hidden space that can only be discovered by solving in-house puzzles.
Located just minutes from the New River Gorge, the property offers families and friends an immersive, lighthearted experience, blending retro charm with the beauty of West Virginia’s outdoor attractions.
For guests seeking more unique stays, the Adamses also offer nearby rentals, including the Game House and Wizard House, each with its own imaginative theme.
