UPDATE 3/26/26 10 AM: According to current magistrate court records, the charge has been dropped against Mitros.
——
WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An 84-year-old woman is facing a felony charge in Wyoming County after authorities say she threatened to shoot workers at a reclamation site.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Wyoming County Magistrate Court, Hilda Mitros is charged under West Virginia code with threats of terrorist acts.
The complaint states the incident stems from events on or about Dec. 17, 2025, along Indian Creek in Wyoming County.
Investigators say a worker with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) reported that while preparing a reclamation job near the Wyoming/McDowell County line, Mitros allegedly made threats toward DEP employees.
According to the complaint, Mitros, who owns property adjacent to the work site, allegedly threatened that she would shoot anyone with a shotgun who trespassed on her property.
Authorities also noted that Mitros believed DEP workers were infringing on her land and that there had been multiple prior incidents in which she made threats toward workers.
The complaint further states that the threats caused the DEP to delay reclamation efforts in the area.
Police indicated concern in the complaint that Mitros was capable of carrying out the threats and pursued charges on behalf of DEP workers for their safety.
A magistrate found probable cause in the case and issued a warrant for Mitros’ arrest.
Court records indicate Mitros has since been released on bond. The case remains pending in Wyoming County Magistrate Court.
