Beckley – Despite Patrick Mills’ best effort, the Miners fell 5-3 to Champion City Tuesday evening in Beckley.
Mills, who has scorched the ball as of late, hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the season, both solo shots in the loss.
With his team trailing 3-1 heading into the eighth inning, Miners third baseman Straton Podaras drove in the team’s second run of the game while Mills’ second homer of the contest tied the game up.
The game eventually went into extra innings where Treyben Funderburg untied it in the 11th with a two-run shot that scored Trey Carter. Kings pitcher Lukas Galdoni held up his end of the bargain in the bottom of the frame, retiring the side in order to preserve the win.
With the loss the Miners drop to 14-13 on the year.
They’ll return to action Wednesday for the second game of the series against the Kings in Beckley.
