WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Department of Justice has awarded over $5.2 million in grants to various law enforcement, higher education, and service agencies in West Virginia, U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced.
The grants, provided through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants Program (Byrne JAG), will support a range of initiatives across the state.

Recipients include:
Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, which will use the funds for equipment upgrades to enhance community safety.
Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office, for purchasing new police cruisers.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office, which will implement its Smart Community Project to integrate advanced technology into cruisers, equipment, and investigative tools.
West Virginia Wesleyan College, which will establish a Center for Ethical Professional Development in Criminal Justice.
Fairmont State University and West Virginia Potomac State College, both of which will upgrade campus security.
Justice and Community Services in Charleston, which will use the funds for rape crisis centers and nonprofit organizations addressing sexual assault and domestic violence statewide.
Byrne JAG is a primary source of federal funding for state and local justice efforts, supporting crime prevention, law enforcement technology, drug treatment, and crisis intervention.
The grants help agencies tackle critical challenges, enhance public safety, and ensure justice for all.
