WILLIAMSTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A missing West Virginia man has been found dead.
The Williamstown Police Department has reported the recovery of the body of 79-year-old Gary Sackett, who was reported missing on September 7.
Sackett’s body was found late Sunday following an extensive search involving multiple agencies and local volunteers.
The search began after Corbin Meadows, a local resident, discovered a pair of shoes near a construction zone on Route 14 by the River Town Grill.
Authorities were alerted, and a K-9 unit from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sgt. T.K. Phillips and K-9 Drago, along with Chief J.S. Graham of the Williamstown Police Department, traced the scent to Big Run Creek.
Search efforts, which included sonar, cadaver dogs, and divers, resulted in the recovery of Sackett’s body at approximately 8:25 p.m. on September 8.
