MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Mercer County Schools received a report at 4:58 PM Monday about a social media post hinting at possible threats to schools.
The West Virginia State Police were immediately alerted, and local law enforcement agencies joined in the investigation.

After interviewing several students, the West Virginia State Police concluded that the threat was not credible.
To ensure the safety of students, staff, and their families, an increased police presence will be maintained at all school campuses.
However, schools will continue to operate on their regular schedules.
In light of recent national incidents, school officials urge parents to discuss with their children the seriousness of making threats.
Law enforcement and school officials will thoroughly evaluate any threats, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be enforced, according to Mercer County Schools.
“We are thankful for those who reported the concern,” said Edward T. Toman, Superintendent of Schools, and Melissa Clemons, Safety Coordinator. “It is crucial that we all work together to maintain a safe school environment.”
